Business in the Spotlight: The Whelan

Jan 29, 2020

Worldwide’s World Guide is as truly South African as curry and rice at a church bazaar. From biltong and braai to doctors and mechanics – here we create a network of South African businesses abroad. Every week, Worldwide chooses one of these companies to appear in the Spotlight. This week the Business in the Spotlight is The Whelan in Atlanta, USA.

For South Africans, the blending of cultures is nothing new. We know our recipe books would have been incomplete without bobotie, bredie, vetkoek and melktert – dishes that we would not have known if it had not been for the melting pot of cultures gathered in South Africa. So, it is not at all strange to see a similar pattern where South Africans make their mark abroad.

The Whelan is a restaurant in Atlanta where American favourites get a South African twist. Table Mountain is featured on the logo, and South Africans and Americans alike all feel welcome. The fusion of the two cultures can only result in culinary masterpieces, and each dish is complemented by a glass of wine or beer of your choice.
