Chris Loubser-video: AfriForum joins in mourning farm murder victims

Oct 26, 2017

The recent wave of violent farm attacks and no less than 70 farm murders that were committed since 1 January this year, has stopped the rural community and most of the country’s citizens in their tracks.

The question on many people’s lips is “what can I do?” This was also the case for Chris Loubser, a farm manager on the farm of a well-known Franschoek businessman, who lay awake on Tuesday evening after Joubert Conradie was shot dead on his farm in the Klapmuts area. Loubser allegedly knew Conradie from agricultural events in the area. It made him decide to record a video on his cell phone the next morning in his car while parked among the vineyards.

In the video he makes an emotional plea to all South Africans to stand together and on Monday wear black to show our respect to the farmers that have been murdered. He further expressed his wish that a moment of silence be held before the Currie Cup final this Saturday to commemorate farm murder victims.

Loubser says in his video that he does not have a Facebook or Twitter account, but his video nevertheless spread like wildfire on social media.

AfriForum wholeheartedly supports Chris Loubser’s initiative and would like to encourage our members and all communities to wear black this coming Monday. “It is important that people take a public stand and this action is an opportunity to do just that,” says Ernst Roets, deputy CEO of AfriForum.
