Reading progress:

The Lekkerbek Basaar in Brisbane is for young and old

Sep 21, 2022

The Brisbane Afrikaans Church held their annual Lekkerbek Basaar on 27 Augustus and once again the event didn’t disappoint. It was a day full of fun and games and plenty to eat. People could enjoy the culinary delight of sosaties, boerewors rolls, vetkoek, curry and rice and of course everyone’s favourite, pancake! There were also homemade sweet treats to choose from, such as the most delicious koeksisters.

The adults’ most important activity was spending time together socially. Gazebos with chairs were spread over the whole area and people could chat and spend time together. For the children there were activities like bow shooting, throwing coins through holes, face painting and many more.

Our first objective with the bazaar is to give people in the wider Brisbane area the opportunity to interact socially. There are many South Africans here who are with other English churches or no church at all, and the bazaar gives them the opportunity to spend time with people from outside their congregation or their network. Some of the funds are utilised for charity, local as well as in South Africa.

The Lekkerbek Basaar is an annual event and the Brisbane Afrikaanse Kerk also hosts a lamb spit braai, potjie competition and golf day. Services are held on Sundays at 08:30 in the Seventh Day Adventist Church Building at 15 London Street, Eight Mile Plains. You are also welcome to follow us on Facebook or BAK’s website.

Apart from our congregation’s actual objective – to tell people about our wonderful Saviour, Jesus – we also regard it as a privilege to play a role in the Afrikaans community in Brisbane. It is our prayer that people will find renewed inspiration to serve the Lord when they attend these social events.

A huge thanks to our sponsors who made this day possible: Home Loans in Aus and AfriForum Wêreldwyd. Please support them. Thank you to everyone who manned the stalls and attended the day. We will do it again next year!

Regards
Brisbane Afrikaans Church
