AfriForum releases report on ANC failures and federal solutions

Nov 10, 2022

The civil rights organisation AfriForum today released a report on ANC failures and federal solutions. The report highlights government failures over the last couple of years which include key service delivery areas such as energy provision, policing, education, and transport infrastructure.

The author of the report, Reiner Duvenage, Campaign Officer for Strategy and Content at AfriForum, gave an overview of the content of the report during this event. The first section in the report highlights the excessive remuneration packages of high-ranking government officials. The report also contains an outline of AfriForum’s federal plan for the future.

The CEO of AfriForum, Kallie Kriel, also gave an outline of AfriForum’s federal plan for the future. AfriForum’s plan is modelled on a decentralized community model and relies on a do-it-yourself approach to make people resistant to the failures of the government.

Heindrich Wyngaard, Executive Chairperson of the Cape Forum, spoke on this occasion about Cape federalism. Wyngaard particularly emphasized how the conditions of all communities in the Western Cape can be improved by promoting community independence, a do-it-yourself attitude and the deepening of democracy within a more federal order.

“It is important that people take note of the scale of ANC government failures in South Africa, precisely because it should encourage us to further make ourselves state-proof through a do-it-yourself approach. This report shows that we definitely cannot rely on the government to save us, but that we should still be hopeful about our federal plans for the future,” says Duvenage.
