Kook en Geniet now a TV series!

Jul 26, 2017

Kook en Geniet is an iconic South African recipe book, and now this bestseller has its very own cooking show. Lise Swart is the presenter, who joins a wide variety of South Africans behind the stove to find out how this classic book influenced their own cooking. She chats to the daughters of the author, Mrs S.J.A. de Villiers, and meets the publishers behind the book. Food editors measure the recipes in Kook en Geniet up against those in popular magazines, and bloggers test recipes to see whether they are suited to modern consumers.

Lise also checks in with chefs and caterers to see how well the recipes lead themselves to the professional food industry. Kook en Geniet enjoys immense popularity among newlyweds who have to learn to cook for the first time, and in this series two recently-married women try their hand at some of the recipes. Little chefs also show up to demonstrate their skills with the recipes from Klein Kook en Geniet and a supper club prepare an entire meal from South Africa’s favourite recipe book. Two recipe book writers and members of the CWAA also show what they’re made of in the kitchen with recipes from Kook en Geniet: Sweet sourdough bread, apricot jam, leg of lamb and bread pudding never tasted this good! Viewers will also get to experience a fancy tea party hosted by the CWAA in Franschhoek, prepared for the town’s seniors. In the last episode, Lise shows how much her own cooking has improved with the help of Kook en Geniet when she prepares a feast for her nearest and dearest. This series will leave your mouth watering and will put you in the mood to prepare some lovely home-made South African meals yourself.
