In the lens: It’s summer in Sydney

It’s summer in Sydney! The weather was lovely and so were the people. A bus took us to a train station, after which another bus transported us to Bondi Beach. It’s not “Bondie Beach”, it’s “Bondaai Beach”, they quickly told us. Thanks to the open air lifestyle, everyone is fit and tanned beautifully. Our Airbnb host talked about “coolies” (cooler boxes) and “budgie smugglers” (Speedos), of which we saw quite a lot on the beach.

Another day, another flight and we arrived at family living on the Gold Coast. That was the most enjoyable part! We made braai bread, got to know my cousins, met other South Africans, fueled up the car by ourselves, bought bigger sunhats and walked our legs weary. Finally we took the ferry to explore Brisbane, ate ice-cream, paid too much for coffee and ate a salad bread.

Now we are broke and on our way back to South Africa on a 15-hour long flight, but it was unquestionably worth the effort. You must definitely visit Australia, especially the Gold Coast.
