Business in the Spotlight: Bushman Meats

May 19, 2021

Worldwide’s World Guide created a successful network to bring South Africans abroad in touch with each other so that you can support South African-owned businesses in your area. Every week, Worldwide selects one business from the World Guide to appear in the Spotlight. This week’s business in the Spotlight is Bushman Meats in Melbourne.

What makes Bushman Meats’ boerewors so special? Is it just the great taste and consistent quality, or is there something more to our story?

The answer lies in personal pride. As the owner, Marietjie Pereksles takes the time to make every single sausage following authentic, tried and tested family recipes, ensuring you receive only great taste and premium quality, consistently.

The custodian of the prized family recipes that have been handed down through the generations is Len Pereksles. He is a legend in the South African meat industry, having dedicated more than 52 years to making premium quality smallgoods. Affectionately known as Oupa PX, you can still find him living in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on the banks of the Bushmans River, and still making boerewors.

Most of the Pereksles family are local to the Estcourt area, and many have worked for the famous Eskort Bacon Co-Op, Len himself having worked as factory manager for more than 30 years.

One could say that making delicious sausages is a family tradition!
