AfriForum is fighting against the slogan “Kill the Boer.”

Aug 31, 2023

AfriForum has announced that its appeal against the Equality Court’s finding that the Kill the Boer chant is not hate speech will be heard on 4 September in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein. AfriForum made this announcement after Julius Malema, leader of the EFF, sang Kill the Boer again this past weekend during the EFF’s tenth anniversary celebrations.

AfriForum will be appealing the ruling in the “Kill the boer” court case. The Equality Court declared the chant “Kill the boer” not to be hate speech.

This ruling creates a very dangerous precedent. The ruling sends out the disturbing message that the incitement of heinous murders on a certain group – based on their identities – is acceptable and carries no penalty.

AfriForum has already laid the charges in October 2020 after supporters of the EFF had sung “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer” outside the Magistrate’s Court in Senekal, where the accused in the murder of the farm manager Brendin Horner had been on trial.
