WEEKEND REFLECTION: Clear your head and mind in 2018

Jan 25, 2018

Firstly, I would like to wish you and your loved ones a prosperous 2018!

What makes January always extra special (despite the bloodshot bank balance!) is the opportunity to start over. An opportunity to focus on areas in my life and business that I may have neglected, and obviously to build on the good habits and great results of the previous year.

January is also the month in which I launched the Klipkouers podcast programme. I celebrated the second anniversary of the podcast last week. I launched the podcast on Monday, 18 January 2016 during my first TV interview on Die GROOT Ontbyt, as well as my first podcast interview with the rugby legend and coffee king Kobus Wiese.

Once again thanks for your support up to now. You give me courage to continue with this young, exciting and weird digital medium. I have big plans for the year ahead – so watch this space!

What makes this year extra special for my family and I is that we will return to South Africa after 14 years in the land of the Englishman. We will arrive in February and are so excited to once again be in our country and between our people and culture. I want to believe that it would give most South Africans hope to know that we still choose South Africa despite its many challenges and people who emigrate. The ray of hope is that these challenges forces innovation – very good news for the country.

May January and February provide you with the opportunity to literally and figuratively spring-clean your home and head. May you be lighter to run faster… In the right direction, of course!

Just keep running, just keep running!

About the author

Jacques Basson

After a wonderful childhood in Riebeeckstad and many years at the Kovsie campus to perfect my pool game (half-truth) and complete a business degree, my corporate sales and marketing career started with the Coca-Cola Company in 1999. Coca-Cola’s management development programme, Kusile, quickly developed by business expertise and five additional companies and senior roles in South Africa and England later – for among others Parmalat, Ecolab, Luxottica and Polaroid Eyewear – I started a commercial cleaning company, VanBroc Cleaning, in 2007, followed by a joint venture with a commercial cleaning company in Austin, Texas in 2012. After 14 years in England my family and I moved back to South Africa early in 2018 and we currently reside in Centurion. Of course, Klipkouers podcast is the new baby in the business family and I need your help raising the child!
