Stelltjie’s words. Usually uttered when her knitting scissors mysteriously disappears. These days, my husband and I jokingly use it as an abridged version of our wedding vows.
But what is mine is mine and what is mine is more than just things.
Earlier this week I came across a list of what to do when faced with burglars at your home.
But what about one that tries to break into the deepest part of your soul?
1. If you become aware of intruders outside, do not turn on any lights in the house, use only outside lights.
It is not the stage lights shining on you that will keep the enemy away from your soul, but the light of Jesus shining from you that will give him more than just a squinting headache.
2. Burglars usually enter through the back door, as it is rarely as well secured as the front door.
The enemy will always pick out your softest spot to get in through. That one thing you do not even bother to pray about may just be the place he is planning his attack for.
3. If you sleep with little or no clothing, get dressed at once as soon as you hear something.
By the time you become aware of the enemy on your soul’s front porch, you should have already polished and put on your armour, ready for battle.
4. Try to get to your home’s main power switch and immerse the entire property in darkness.
The enemy of your soul thrives in the dark. But when you, freed by grace, illuminate all the dark corners of your heart with the truth, there is nothing left with which the enemy can hold you captive.
5. When burglars enter your home, don’t try to resist, but give them whatever they want.
Nothing in this world or the next belongs to the enemy. Not even the hell he was banished to. Stop giving him ownership over things in your life.
6. Do not look directly at the burglars. If you recognize them, do not show it, and do not mention the person’s name.
To protect your soul, it is necessary that you address what you know is a danger to your peace. To deny that something is a threat is to invite trouble.
7. If the burglars eventually leave your home, do not chase after them.
Why would you want to go back to what the Lord has freed you from? And yet …
8. If you see any suspicious movement at your neighbour’s, notify them.
Love comes with responsibility. Let’s warn each other before too much damage is done.
“Be on your guard and stay awake.
Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack.
But you must resist the devil and stay strong in your faith.
You know that all over the world the Lord’s followers are suffering just as you are.
But God shows undeserved kindness to everyone. That’s why he appointed Christ Jesus to choose you to share in his eternal glory.
You will suffer for a while, but God will make you complete, steady, strong, and firm.
God will be in control forever! Amen. ”
